An explosion apparently caused by Taliban hit, Saturday, November 12, just after 5 pm 30 (1 h 00 GMT), the largest US military base to Afghanistan at Bagram, near Kabul, killing at least four dead and 14 wounded, NATO announced.
"A bomb exploded on the Bagram air base, we treat the wounded and opened an investigation," said the NATO in a statement announcing a review of at least four dead and 14 wounded, without specifying the nationalities of victims.
Abdul Shakoor Quddusi, chief of Bagram district, had previously said that three people were killed and 15 wounded by a "powerful explosion" on the base.
Intensification of attacks before winter
The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the explosion in a message on his Twitter account. The Taliban intensified their attacks throughout the country before the arrival of winter, which is usually during a lull in the fighting. In the night from Thursday to Friday is the German consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif , 380 km northwest of Bagram, which was the target of an attack. At least six people were killed and 120 injured.
The explosion highlights the deteriorating security situation, almost two years after the formal end of combat operations of NATO in Afghanistan, while Afghan forces are struggling to face Taliban Islamist insurgents.
The Bagram base, located about fifty kilometers from Kabul, was regularly attacked by the Taliban.
In December, a Taliban suicide bomber perched on a motorcycle blew himself up near the base, killing six US soldiers. This had been one of the deadliest attacks against foreign troops in Afghanistan in 2015.
