Israel has often responded to stray fire as a result of the Syrian civil war, but an exchange of fire with gunmen in the Golan is rare since the war broke out more than five years.
Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner, spokesman for the Israeli army spokesman said the militants fired on Israeli soldiers who were in the area controlled by Israel of a car on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. The soldiers responded by firing to implement Israeli aircraft strike.
Lerner said, "Air Force intervened and targeted the car that was hit by the gunmen and the car, killing four terrorists, apparently." He added that the militants of the group Martyrs Brigade Yarmouk, which has been linked to the "Islamic state."
The previous Israeli attacks targeted the biggest depth in Syria and ways to supply stores to arm the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah fighters that supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Immediate response from the banner of "Martyrs of Yarmouk" was issued. The United States decided in June 2016 considered the group a terrorist entity for its activities and its links with the "Islamic state."
The group attracted attention for the first time when they kidnapped 21 Filipinos from the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the demilitarized zone between Syria and the Israeli-controlled Golan. And they released them in March 2013.
Israel and the occupied West Heights in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move not recognized internationally.
