In the Philippines, on the sixth day of clashes between the army and allies of the EI organization, the bodies of at least 11 civilian victims were found in Marawi. This city in the south of the Philippines remains in the hands of terrorists.
The Philippine Army on Saturday (May 27th) announced the bodies of a woman and two children near a university in Marawi.
According to several local media, the bodies of eight men were also found thrown into a ditch near a road on the outskirts of Marawi, next to a sign bearing the inscription " hypocrite " in Arabic. These men were identified by residents as employees of a local factory and a medical school, reports our correspondent in Manila, Marianne Dardard.
Marawi is a city with a Muslim majority of nearly 200,000 inhabitants. Thousands have fled since the clash began on Tuesday. On the other hand, 2,000 civilians were trapped in the fighting.
Hidden fighters among civilians
Always connected to the outside world thanks to their phones, their calls for help to the Philippine authorities are, for the moment, without effect. It is impossible for rescuers to enter a city held by fighters claiming to belong to the Islamic State group.
According to information on the spot, the lack of food begins to be felt, and fear no longer leaves the inhabitants constantly caught between two fires. The Philippine army faces a dilemma. The fighters hide in the city, among civilians, making the air strikes difficult and risky, but essential, according to the authorities, to try to dislodge the rebels.
The bombing, which intensified on Saturday, killed dozens of Islamist militants. The army denied any civilian casualties in its air strikes.
