Are products from the American giant Apple the cause of the crash of EgyptAir? A little over a year ago, the MS 804 flight from Paris to Cairo accidentally crashed into the sea, causing the death of 66 people. Today, investigating judges in charge of the investigation are closely interested in the track of a fire in the cockpit. And, at the origin of this fire perhaps, Apple hardware.
By viewing the surveillance cameras at Roissy airport and zooming inside the cockpit, investigators identified the presence of Apple products: an iPhone and an iPad. Three experts have therefore been appointed to carry out a series of tests on similar devices.
Thermal runaway
Among them, a researcher at the CNRS, a doctor of physics of the solids and an engineer specializing in batteries. They will, for example, have to cause a thermal runaway of the batteries to calculate the power of the heat radiation and the fumes which emanate from them. And so knowing if the overheating of an Apple device could be causing a fire in the cockpit or even having asphyxiated the pilots and thus cause the crash of the plane.
Apple products rigorously tested
For the time being, the American company specifies that it was not contacted by the experts but is ready to answer all their questions. Before recalling that all Apple products are rigorously tested. But if they are positive, the results of this investigation could well make the American giant shake.
