Qatar Uses FBI In Its Agency's "Piracy" Investigation

The Gulf Cooperation Council, which brings together the monarchies and emirates of the Arabian Peninsula, is again torn apart by dissension. Saudi Arabia in particular, but also the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait did not take off against Qatar.

It began last week when Qatar's official news agency website published very critical remarks by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. These are words that break the usual consensus of the six member states of the Council and that have set fire to the powders.

The Emir of Qatar allegedly claimed that Iran - the crushing beast of Saudi Arabia in particular - must be strategically and not perceived as the traditional enemy and troublemaker in the region. These statements are all the more provocative because they contradict those of Donald Trump, the American president, and the King of Saudi Arabia, who hold Iran as the main craftsman of terrorism in the region.

Qatar may argue that its official news agency has been hacked, that the emir has never made such a statement, nothing does. At Doha's request, it is the FBI, at this time Who conducts the investigation and may try to dispel suspicions.

In any case, Qatar has often made it alone in the region, to the dismay of its partners. The last open crisis dates back to 2014 when GCC member countries recalled their ambassador to Doha to protest Qatar's alleged support of the Muslim Brotherhood.
