Death Of UN Experts: 1st Hearing For 2 Suspected Assassins

The trial of the suspected murderers of two UN experts killed last March in the Democratic Republic of Congo opened on Monday morning in front of the military court in Kananga,

the capital of central Kasai province. In this case, 16 people are charged, but only two are in the accused's box. It is Evariste Ilunga Lumu, a student who was about to pass his baccalaureate in a few days, and Mbayi Kabasele, a cutter of palm nuts.

On Monday morning, lawyers raised formal objections, demonstrating the incompetence of the military court and denouncing the "  obscurity  " of the wording of the charges. The hearing was postponed until Monday, the time for the prosecution to prepare its response.
