London Bombing: Donald Trump's Awkward Tweet On Sadiq Khan

US President Donald Trump at a Charity Gala for the Legacy of Abraham Lincoln, Washington, June 4, 2017.

After the London bombings, Donald Trump reacted with a mixture of sympathy by offering US cooperation to the British, but also criticism of the London mayor and opportunism, to push his decree on travel. As usual, he could not help but shoot himself in the foot with various awkward tweets.

In one of his tweets, he attacks the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, a Muslim. "  At least 7 dead and 48 wounded and the mayor says there is no reason to be alarmed,  " he writes sarcastically. Indeed, he did - intentionally or not - misinterpreted what the aedile said, which simply warned Londoners not to worry about the massive deployment of police officers on the streets. Both men have already clung to the past.

In another tweet, he seized the opportunity of the attacks to promote his migratory decree which blocks the entry of nationals of six Muslim countries into the United States, a decree rejected by several tribunals that deemed it unconstitutional.

Susan Rice, former director of the National Security Council under Obama, challenged on ABC the effectiveness of the decree to prevent terrorist acts in the United States. "There is really no evidence to suggest that by excluding Muslims, or Muslims from a particular group of six countries, it would enhance our security in the United States," she said. Susan Rice, on the contrary, believes that the decree offends American Muslims and encourages some to join the Islamists.
