A New Constitution In Mali: Towards A Strengthening Of The Presidential Powers



The Malian opposition fears that the constitutional revision will reinforce the powers of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

The draft new Constitution was adopted by the Malian deputies by 111 votes to 30, late on the night of 2nd to 3rd June. It paves the way for the creation of a Senate and strengthens, according to the opposition, the powers of the President.

A new attack reported in Mali on Monday morning in the small town of Banamba which lies 140 kilometers north of Bamako. Gunmen attacked the gendarmerie and the prison where they were out of detainees.
