A patrol of the Ivorian security forces in Bouaké on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, after the incidents that occurred on the same day around a demonstration of demobilized ex-rebels.
Bouake is definitely not out of the spiral of violence: after the mutineers last week, the "demobilized" (former rebels not reinstated in the army) claim in turn bonuses. About 6,000 of them, according to their own count, each claims 18 million CFA francs (27,000 euros). On Tuesday morning in Bouake, clashes turned into a tragedy, while the demobilized blocked the southern access of the second city of the country. A seriously injured person died at midday in the hospital, bringing to four the number of ex-rebels killed.
