Israel: 15,000 Demonstrators Against The Occupation Of The Palestinian Territories

"Fifty years is enough". This was the slogan taken by about 15,000 Israelis on Saturday evening, May 27 in Tel Aviv. A rally against the occupation of the Palestinian Territories at the call of anti-colonization organizations and left-wing parties. A demonstration a few days before the 50th anniversary of the conquest of the Territories by the Israeli army, while the peace process is at a standstill.

The place Itzhak Rabin hosted in the past much more massive gatherings. But given the current weight of the Israeli left, Nir Stanescu said he was satisfied. "  It's become an insult to tell someone he's on the left. So it's hot to see all these people, "he says.

The event is a comfort for demonstrators who often take a very dark look at the current state of Israel. "  I am very pessimistic about the future of this country. My parents built it and I see it goes ... to hell, "laments a woman who finds it difficult to hold back her tears.

A little further, a mother of the family still has a little hope. A hope she wants to pass to her three children came with her. "  In our home, we try to tell them that we are all equal. And that the path we must follow, if we want to be free ourselves, is to free other people, "she says.

Political speeches follow one another on stage. On several occasions, the crowd resumed the slogan "Bibi at home". But she listens attentively to a message from Mahmoud Abbas. " There is no stronger voice than a just and inclusive peace," says the letter from the President of the Palestinian Authority.

In the middle of the crowd, a woman answers: "  I hope that the Palestinians can hear that we also want peace."
