Re-elected In Iran, Rohani Will Have To Deal With Pro-Saudi America Of Trump

Barely re-elected triumphantly for four years, the moderate Iranian president Hassan Rohani has been put under pressure by the United States, the enemy of Iran for nearly 40 years. From Saudi Arabia, Iran's rival to the Middle East, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson directly asked the elected official to begin a process of dismantling the "  Iranian terrorist network  " and "  End the ballistic missile test  " of the country.


Iranian officials have not yet responded to statements by the head of the US diplomacy. Before these statements, however, President Rohani said that his broad victory showed that the Iranian people wanted to "  live in peace and friendship with the rest of the world ", but that he did not accept "  the threat and Humiliation  ".

"  The way to bring security to the region is to strengthen democracy and not to rely on foreign powers,  " President Rohani added a few hours before Rex Tillerson, in a clear allusion to the Saudi Arabia, where US President Donald Trump is currently with his Secretary of State.

Complicated relations between Washington and Tehran

The visit of President Trump, which according to Rex Tillerson aims to counter the "  bad Iranian influence  " in the region, is a bad gift to President Rohani. During the election campaign, the Iranian president promised that once he was re-elected, he would try to get an end to all sanctions against Tehran after the lifting of international sanctions linked to the country's nuclear program.

This promise will be difficult to maintain since the Americans have imposed new sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran in recent months because of its ballistic program . Especially in Washington, the new administration wants to maintain the pressure on Tehran to also change its regional policy, especially with regard to Syria, Iraq or Yemen.
